Tuesday's parade is being carefully planned and choreographed, but Monday's homecoming celebration was not. It was just a spontaneous love fest between the Red Sox and a few hundred of their closest friends.
Red Sox fans were not disappointed when the first bus pulled up and out came the World Series trophy being held by team owner John Henry.
He didn't just show the crowd the trophy he shared it with the Fenway Faithful walking up to people and letting them touch it.
And the crowd went nuts when slugger David Ortiz came out hoisting the trophy above his head.
All the players looked physically drained from staying up all night celebrating their sweep of the Rockies.
Pitcher Mike Timlin with daughter Mykala on his shoulders thanked the fans as he and his family walked home from Fenway. "I've pitched well... I've rejuvenated my career here, you know, and to go back to the World Series twice. It's been awesome."
The Sox season ends as the fans had dreamed it would. There is one more thing they need to do as a team, and manager Terry Francona is excited about this last bit of business.
"I'm proud of what we've accomplished. We're going to share it tomorrow with a lot a crazy fans and enjoy that time of it."
On Monday, fans just wanted to be close to the players that brought them so much joy through the season -- and thank them personally by being in the crowd and cheering them off their buses. It was mission accomplished.
Another cheer came from President Bush to Sox co-owner Larry Lucchino. He called him before boarding the plane and passed along his congratulations.
