Red Sox Parade Set For Tuesday

Tuesday's Parade Route
BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Red Sox World Series victory parade will begin Tuesday at noon at Fenway Park.

In a news conference Monday afternoon, Boston Mayor Tom Menino said the parade would be similar to the "rolling rally" that was held after the 2004 championship, when the players rode through the city on duck boats.

The parade will start at noon on Boylston Street at Yawkey Way and then continue on Park Drive/Fenway and Boylston Street. The rolling rally will take a left on Tremont Street, go straight on Cambridge Street and end at New Chardon Street

This year, officials said the boats will not go into the Charles River. The mayor said too many people jumped into the water in 2004 to follow the players.

Along the way, Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon will dance his version of an Irish jig, and the Dropkick Murphys will perform.

Menino acknowledged having the celebration on a week day would inconvenience some businesses and keep school children away, but said players were eager to get home to their families and begin their vacation.

The MBTA subways will operate at rush hours levels throughout the day Tuesday. Fans are encouraged to purchase round-trip fares on their way into the city to avoid lengthy lines after the parade ends.

Menino also said a "rolling rally" was easier for city officials to manage, because it spread out the crowds. He estimated security would cost $500,000.

WBZ-TV and wbztv.com will provide live, anchored coverage of the parade Tuesday afternoon.
