48 Mass. Residents Hit By Salmonella Strain
BOSTON (AP) ―
State health officials say that 48 Massachusetts residents overall have been affected with the sameĀ salmonella strain that has stricken around 575 people in 43 states.
Department of Public Health spokesman John Jacob confirmed Monday that all patients have survived and the most recent case came from laboratory tests conducted Jan. 25.
Authorities say the outbreak has been traced to tainted peanuts from a Peanut Corp. of America plant in Blakely, Ga.
Investigators say the company knowingly shipped salmonella-laced products after tests showed they were contaminated.
The outbreak resulted in the recall of more than 1,500 foods.
