It looks like the town is getting closer to having a days-old boil-water order lifted.
On Tuesday, Pembroke officials said tests performed on the town's 31 water distribution sites showed no traces of E. coli, but some coliform bacteria were present.
Coliform bacteria were found in five of the 31 tests.
Until the source of the bacteria is completely nailed down and all the tests come back clear, the boil-water order will remain in effect.
The town needs three separate clean test results before the boil order is lifted. That could be as soon as Thursday.
Pembroke officials are distributing bottled water to residents for now.
The water is available at Pembroke High School and limited to three gallons per day per household.
In the meantime, residents should boil tap water for at least one minute before using it. Officials are flushing the system and adding more chlorine to it as well.
