A boilwater order is still in effect Wednesday for the town of Pembroke after three out of 34 samples tested positive for coliform.
There were no traces of E. coli in the samples but the boil order cannot be lifted until a minimum of three rounds of sample results in a row show no coliform in the Pembroke Water System, Public Works officials said.
Until the source of the bacteria is determined and all the tests come back clear, the boil-water order will remain in effect.
In the meantime, Pembroke officials are distributing bottled water to residents.
The water is available at Pembroke High School and limited to three gallons per day per household.
In the meantime, residents should boil tap water for at least one minute before using it. Officials are flushing the system and adding more chlorine to it as well.
The next round of samples is expected to return Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
