5 Mass. Towns Under Boil-Water Order
PEMBROKE (WBZ) ―
Yet another Massachusetts town has been placed under a boil-water order.
Public Water Commissioner Dennis LaForce said the village of Manchaug in the town of Sutton has been on a boil-water order for more than a week after officials found E. coli in the water supply.
The only area affected is the village of Manchaug, not the entire town of Sutton.
LaForce said officials are chlorinating the water. He said they believe the contamination happened when crews placed some pumps at wells on Putnam Hill Road in Manchaug at the end of June. He says the contactor never installed the sanitary seal as planned.
Residents in Manchaug should boil their water for a minute before using it.
Four other Massachusetts towns are under water advisories, including Pembroke, Dudley, and Fire District 2, which covers South Hadley and parts of Granby.
Pembroke has also been under a boil-water order for more than a week. The source of the contamination is unknown.
Pembroke water officials are awaiting results from samples on Saturday after the latest results came back clean. However, in order for the order to be lifted, three sets of water samples must come back clean three days in a row.
