Recent water samples taken in Pembroke showed no traces of E. coli or any other coliform bacteria, but a boil water order is still in effect until further notice, said officials from the Department of Public Works.
Health officials released the latest test samples results on Monday. According to health officials, all 31 samples taken on
Saturday showed no signs of E. coli or coliform bacteria.
The results of samples taken on Sunday and Monday will be known on Tuesday.
It has been more than a week since the boil order was placed on the entire city of Pembroke.
All throughout the boil water order, Pembroke officials have been distributing bottled water to residents.
In the meantime, residents should boil tap water for at least one minute before using it. Officials are flushing the system and adding more chlorine to it as well.
So far, there have been no confirmed illnesses related to E. coli.
Pembroke isn't the only city to have water problems. Four more Massachusetts towns -- the village of Manchaug in Sutton, Dudley, and Fire District 2, which covers South Hadley and parts of Granby -- have implemented a water boiling advisory after E. coli was found in the public water supply.
