A Boston deputy fire chief charged with posing as a state trooper and raping a woman at gunpoint pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
Peter Pearson, 51, of East Bridgewater was released on $50,000 cash bail after his arraignment in Brockton District Court. He's charged with aggravated rape, assault with a deadly weapon, impersonating a police officer and armed kidnapping.
A Brockton woman reported to police in early July that a man she believed was a highway patrol officer assaulted her two weeks earlier. Pearson was arrested Monday night after the woman spotted his car, and identified Pearson as her attacker.
The veteran firefighter was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim and wear an electronic monitoring device.
Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said Pearson has been placed on administrative leave with pay, as long as he remains out on bail. Pearson must keep the department informed of his court dates and status. He is due back in court next week.
WBZ has learned that Pearson faced a charge of solicting sex for a fee in 1996. That case was continued without a finding.
