Student Shares Story Of Loved Ones In Haiti

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Nine year old Benjamin Jean sits in the family room in Plymouth, Mass. and reads a letter written from his heart.

"Millions are homeless, thousands have died and hundreds are buried and injured," Ben Jean reads.

Ben is a third grader at Saint Margaret's Regional School in Buzzards Bay. He's dad lost two of his sisters and one brother in Haiti's devastating earthquake.

Ben is the only Haitian in his school and since he has family in Port Au Prince the school newspaper asked him to write an article about the earthquake. He entitled it "Terror Tuesday".

"Ten days after they are still finding people who are still under the rubble," Ben reads. Ben says it took him about three days to write the one page article. He says seeing the images on TV was tough to watch.

"We can just walk over to a supermarket and buy food water, and they fight each other. I think that something needs to be done," Ben said.

He says he never got the chance to meet his aunt and uncle but he knows one thing. "I know they are in a better place," Ben says in a soft voice.
