Keller: Successful Debate For McCain

Read: Keller's Post Debate Chat

BOSTON (WBZ) ― What a poorly formatted and moderated debate! I actually winced several times when John McCain tore up Barack Obama on an important subject – an early attack on taxes in particular – and Tom Brokaw wouldn't let Obama immediately respond. Awful!

Obama had a nice closing statement on how great America has been for him. And as usual, he was calm and collected, made a show of listening respectfully to McCain, and cleared the bar of acceptability to be president for any casual voter just starting to focus.

But this was McCain's debate on points by a wide margin. He was active, energetic, and on the attack not with silly mudslinging like that Bill Ayres stuff, but on issues of real substance like taxes, energy and national security.

Look, this election is shaping up as a protest vote against the status quo, and if that's the case, it's hard to imagine Obama not winning. He rammed home that point several times by scorching the Bush years and linking McCain to them. So I'm not saying this debate was a game-changer. But it was a successful night for McCain.

See you on my blog for feedback and chat.
