Dog Owner Says Kennel Gave Her Mutt, Not Puggle

BARRE (WBZ) ― A Barre woman is hoping to get at least some of her money back, after paying nearly $1,000 for a dog she thought was a designer breed.

Amanda Quinlan insists the dog named Chloe is not a puggle, a mix between a pug and a beagle, but a mutt of many mixes.

"By the time she finished puppy school she was 25 pounds," Quinlan tells WBZ-TV. "That's the max for a puggle, and soon after she just kept growing."

In fact, Chloe is now 40 pounds and Quinlan has no idea how much bigger she could get.

She never questioned the breed when she bought it from Puppies Galore Kennel in Charlton, and thought Chloe's face had pug and beagle traits.

But now she says compare pictures from a puggle to her pet and it tells a much different story.

"The wrinkles are gone, her face is completely expanded," says Quinlan.

She ordered her own DNA test to confirm her suspicions and the results revealed Chloe is a mix of labrador retriever, australian shepherd and english settler.

"I'd like to see what she's worth because I paid over a thousand dollars for a mutt," says Quinlan.

Which isn't to say Quinlan has any intention of returning the dog she's now attached to and has nicknamed "tons of fun."

She says it's more dog to love than she expected, and has become more expensive since she had to buy a second, larger crate, and taller gates around the house for starters.

When contacted by WBZ-TV, Puppies Galore denies any kind of mix-up, and insists on a second DNA test to verify the results for a refund.

In fact, the kennel says Chloe was part of a litter with three other dogs and there have not been any other complaints.

Quinlan says she's willing to have her dog tested again.

"There's no doubt in my mind the test results I got were the right ones," she adds.
