Allston Man Held In Rape, Beating Of Older Woman

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Police think they've caught the man who raped and beat a 66-year-old woman last week on Gardner Street in Allston.

Jose Sariano Gonzalez, 20, of Allston was arrested early Thursday on Brighton Avenue following a brief struggle, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.

He was arraigned in Brighton District Court and ordered held on $250,000 bail.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez was on a scooter when he approached the woman as she walked along Gardner Street at about 5:30 a.m. last Thursday.

They say he lured her to an area among some buildings and raped and beat her.

"This was a crime of unconscionable brutality," Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley said in a news release.

"Crimes of sexual violence are abhorrent," Conley said, "but the violent rape of an elderly woman leaves even seasoned police and prosecutors speechless."

The victim suffered severe swelling and bruising in her neck and facial area, the District Attorney's Office said.

She was treated at Tufts Medical Center.

Gonzalez was charged with aggravated rape, assault and battery on a person 60 or older, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property (a stolen credit card discovered during booking).

He is due back in court Sept. 30.
