Yankees Fan Gets Prison Time For Killing Sox Fan

LOWELL (AP) ― A Lawrence barber who killed one man and wounded two others during an alcohol-fueled argument in a moving van over a Yankees-Red Sox playoff game has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other charges.

Julio Rodriguez was sentenced on Tuesday in Lowell Superior Court to five years in prison after his plea. The 62-year-old Rodriguez was credited with the four years he has spent behind bars since the October 2004 incident.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez was among a group of men who watched the baseball game on TV in Boston, won by the Red Sox 6-4. As the men drove home along Interstate 93, some of them teased Rodriguez, a Yankees fan.

He pulled a gun and fatally shot Jose Rivera and wounded Raphael Tavares and Jose Viera.

Rodriguez said he had no memory of the incident.
