Reebok Cuts 300 Workers
Some 100 Employees Laid Off At Canton Headquarters
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Reebok has laid off about 300 workers globally, including 100 at its headquarters in Canton.
Reebok International President Ulrich Becker said on Tuesday that the move was designed to help the company bring its cost structure in line with its 2009 targets.
Spokeswoman Josie Stevens says the layoffs are effective immediately.
The majority of the layoffs were in the company's sales, operations and marketing departments.
Globally, more than 8,500 people are employed with Reebok, including 1,700 in Massachusetts.
Reebok has four facilities in Massachusetts. Offices in Stoughton and Lancaster were unaffected by the cuts, officials said.
Twelve employees were cut at the company's Mattapoisett facility.
Other layoffs occurred at Reebok facilities in Latin America, Montreal and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
