Fund Set Up For Flag Holders Stolen From Cemetery

SAUGUS (WBZ) ― A fund has been set up to help replace hundreds of flag holders stolen from a Saugus cemetery for scrap metal.

More than 500 aluminum flag holders have been taken from the graves of veterans, firefighters and police officers at Riverside Cemetery.

Cemetery Superintendent John Falasca said each holder is worth about $20, which means it would cost about $10,000 to replace them.

Falasca told WBZ he's already received a few donations, so a fund has been set up to coordinate them.

Anyone interested in contributing can send cash or checks to:

Riverside Cemetery
c/o Veterans Flag Holders
164 Winter Street
Saugus, MA 01906
(781) 231-4170

Police say they have a few leads, but there have been no arrests.
