Woman Pinned Between Cars In Route 93 Collision
Broken Down Land Rover Prompts Mult-Car Wreck
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
A woman was pinned between a car and a pick-up truck in a collision on Route 93 South early Saturday morning and was airlifted to a hospital, state police said.
Deborah Miller, 55, was a passenger in a Saab that swerved to avoid hitting a broken down Land Rover in the left lane of Route 93 south of Commerce Way in Woburn just after 6:30 a.m., hitting a guard rail.
Moments before the Saab hit the guard rail, a Honda sedan had also avoided hitting the Land Rover in the road and thus hit the guard rail.
Minutes later, a Ford Ranger pick-up truck driven by 35-year-old Michael J. Mulligan, of Methuen, swerved to avoid the crash scene and smashed into the Honda sedan on the side of the road, state police said.
Miller, who by that time had gotten out of the Saab, was pinned between the pick-up and the sedan. She was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries. Her condition was unknown Saturday.
Mulligan and the driver of the Honda, 49-year-old Sarah Buck, of Andover, and her 23-year-old passenger were also taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Route 93 South remained closed for about 90 minutes following the wreck.
