A fire destroys a home in Sandwich early Thursday morning.

By the time the fire department arrived at 8 Chaucer Street around 4 a.m., the house was engulfed in flames and a man with burn wounds was waiting outside.

Cathy Kuzava told the Cape Cod Times Thursday that her brother, Joseph Kuzava, suffered second-degree burns to his upper torso and was flown by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Kuzava is expected to survive.

Sandwich fire Capt. Timothy McMahon said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but investigators are "looking at" the water heater.
