2 Suspects Arrested In Storm Drain Cover Thefts
PEMBROKE, N.H. (WBZ) ―
Police in Manchester, N.H. arrested two suspects, who they say were caught stealing manhole covers.
Police had been looking for the culprits responsible for stealing storm drain grates along a rural road in Pembroke, N.H., though it is unclear if the suspects are connected to those cases.
Police arrested 26-year-old Jeremy Gower and 29-year-old David Hill after construction crews spotted them stealing the sewer covers and loading them into their pickup truck at South Beech and South Willow streets, police said.
They were each charged with theft.
Police say stolen grates in earlier incidents were hauled away to be sold to scrap metal yards for about $5 a grate. More than two dozen grates have been stolen in Pembroke and nearby Epsom in the past three months.
"It could cause significant damage to the vehicle, as far as blowing out a tire, causing someone to lose control of their vehicle," Pembroke Police Officer Gary Allen explained.
