Boy, 7, Shot In Roxbury Crossfire
ROXBURY (WBZ) ―
A 7-year-old boy was shot in the back Monday evening when he was caught in crossfire as he played outdoors with a friend.
The shooting occurred behind 12 Smith St. in Roxbury, police Superintendent Rafael Ruiz told reporters at the scene.
The boy was being treated at Boston Medical Center. His injuries were not life-threatening, Ruiz said.
Police were looking for two vehicles: a green Lincoln Navigator with three suspects inside and a white or silver Honda that carried one person, Ruiz said.
The boy apparently was caught in crossfire between the two vehicles, Ruiz said.
Witnesses said he stumbled from his back yard to the sidewalk in front of the house.
"The little boy was like, "Can you help me? Can you help me?'" witness Jatia Ellis said. "And the guy said, 'Yes, we'll call an ambulance.'"
"It's just, like, one of the first warm days, and this happens," said Denise Reyes, who lives in the neighborhood. "I can't even image what's going to happen for the rest of the summer."
