7-Year-Old Boy Shot In Gang Crossfire
ROXBURY (WBZ) ―
Boston Police have arrested a teen in a shooting that's apparently connected to the shooting of a 7-year-old boy in Roxbury.
The unidentified boy was shot in the back when he was caught in the crossfire between rival gangs as he played outside with a friend on Smith St. Monday evening.
He was rushed to Boston Medical Center in stable condition. His wounds are not life-threatening.
Police believe Kenny Francois, 18, of Hyde Park, may be linked to the shooting.
He pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm. However, police say the gun has not been found.
Investigators say it all started when Francois and another young man were travelling in a Honda down Tremont Street when someone on a bike approached them and shot Francois's friend in the torso.
Police say he continued to drive and they came upon the gunman on the bike again in the Sewall Street area and returned fire. That's when the boy was wounded in the crossfire.
Francois and his 18-year-old friend drove to Brigham and Women's Hospital where the friend was treated. A short time later, detectives arrested Francois. He was ordered held on $2,500 bail and is due back in court July 29.
He has not been charged in the boy's shooting.
Police are not releasing any more details.
