Six Flags New England May Get More 'Extreme'
AGAWAM (AP) ―
The rides may be getting more extreme at Six Flags New England.
City officials in Agawam are considering a zoning change that would allow the amusement park to build roller coasters and other rides up to 200 feet in height. Under current rules, the park must obtain a special permit to construct any ride exceeding 45 feet.
City Councilor Jill Messick says she would support the change because Six Flags is one of Agawam's biggest employers and biggest taxpayers.
Six Flags abandoned plans to build a $7.5 million indoor roller coaster earlier this year after delays in the zoning process.
The park's president, Larry Litton, says the most popular thrill rides around the world average about 190 feet in height.
