Snow Emergencies & Parking Bans
BOSTON (WBZ) ― The first significant storm of the season brought icy roads, accidents, sleet, freezing rain, snow and more than 400 school cancellations across southern New England. Logan Airport was temporarily closed Wednesday afternoon.

The storm caused problems right through the evening commute.

The heavy rain and strong winds continued across eastern Massachusetts throughout the day. Cities and towns along Interstate 495, especially northwest of Boston, faced the threat of ice, which made driving treacherous.

As of 10:30 p.m. NStar reported 1,800 scattered outages. National Grid had approximately 100 outages.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the Cape and Nantucket until Thursday morning. Gusts of up to 60 miles per hour are possible.

Further north and west, the nor'easter is producing all snow. We have reports of 11-inches of snow in West Newbury and 9-inches in Hampton, N.H.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for parts of four counties in western Massachusetts, predicting snowfall rates that could exceed two inches per hour and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

There is also a blizzard warning for Cheshire County in New Hampshire. Up to two feet of snow is possible in some parts there.

The storm forced Logan International Airport to close for an hour and 20 minutes, and more than 130 of the airport's 1,100 daily flights were canceled. The speed limit on the Massachusetts Turnpike was lowered to 40 mph., Route 99 in Chelsea closed because of flooding and state police reported several cars spinning off the road.

A Fung Wah bus skidded off the Massachusetts Turnpike and into a guard rail at about 11:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes just before Allston-Brighton toll plaza. No one was seriously hurt.

A watermain break has forced the MBTA to bus passengers between Wellington and Oak Grove on the Orange Line.
