Nor'Easter Knocks Out Power To Thousands
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Slick and slushy roads weren't the only danger Monday as a classic Nor'easter slamed New England. The heavy wet snow also brought down tree branches and trees themselves.
There were reports of trees down in Hingham, Dedham, Mattapan, Allston, Abington, Randoplh and Arlington, just to name a few.
Spokesman Peter Judge of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said the heavy, wet snow caused some tree limbs to snap, resulting in scattered power outages.
NSTAR spokesperson, Caroline Allen, says they have about 2,500 customers without power. She says the hardest hit area is Walpole, where a majority of their outages are being reported.
The MBTA's Mattapan hi-speed Red Line was diverted Monday morning between Mattapan and Ashmont due to a tree blocking the tracks.
MBTA passengers on board the C branch of the Green Line were bused between Coolidge Corner and Cleveland Circle in both directions Monday morning after a tree blocked the tracks on Fairbanks and Beacon streets.
Just before noon Route 2 in Arlington was shut down in both directions after a car hit a utility pole and knocked power lines across the roadway near Plymouth Street.
WBZ viewer Michael Page sent us a photo of a tree that fell Monday morning on Wanders Drive in Hingham, just missing a van.
Two WBZ employees weren't so lucky, as a giant tree came down on a truck and a car in the station parking lot.
