Local Soldiers Say Goodbye To Family And Friends
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Dozens of local soldiers said goodbye to family and friends Saturday as they head towards assignment in Iraq.
Members of the 719th Transportation Battalion left for Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They will train there before being deployed to Iraq.
Senator John Kerry joined the soldiers' friends and family at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel Saturday to give them a proper sendoff.
Kerry called them the bravest Massachusetts has to offer, and thanked them for their service.
''We don't want to confuse the service of our soldiers, which is exemplary," Kerry said, "with the feelings we have about the war itself. You have to separate that. So I came here to say thank you to these troops for their service, at the same time as we're fighting to find a way to conclude it successfully.''
Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray also attended the ceremony.
This is the battalion's second trip to Iraq. They are expected to be there until June of 2008.
