Second Woman Attacked In Somerville This Week

SOMERVILLE (WBZ) ― A woman was robbed by knifepoint in Somerville Wednesday night, and as police report, they are trying to find out if this incident is connected for four similar attacks in the area over the past week.

Police say the woman was robbed on Bow Street around 9 p.m. "The suspect displayed a knife, he demanded cash from the victim, the suspect and the victim got into a struggle and the victim was able to flee," explained Somerville Dep. Chief Paul Upton.

The incident comes only a few days after a woman was stabbed in the chest with a screw driver-like weapon while she was walking home from the Sullivan Square MBTA station Monday night around 10 p.m.

There has been no connection made in the attacks, but police say the attacker resembles the description given by the woman who was stabbed Monday night. "The method of operation of the suspect – approaching the victim from behind -- and the physical description, being a very heavyset person – round face – and displaying a cutting device in his hand seems to be consistent with the three (attacks) we've had in Somerville," said Upton.

The suspect from Monday is described as a white man, between 30 and 50 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall with a stocky build.

He has a round face, thin lips, puffy, dark colored bags under his eyes and a short neck. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark-colored knit cap and a waist-length vinyl or leather jacket with an elastic waistband.

The suspect was also seen getting into a black car that looked like an Acura.

Police are now urging people to walk in groups and to be extra aware of your surroundings.

To help catch the suspect, transit police have been issuing wanted posted from the Somerville Police Department, and have increased their vigilance in the area.

Police say they have received a lot of phone calls and tips about the suspect since his sketch was released on Wednesday.

Anyone with information about the any of the attacks or the suspect is asked to call the Somerville police at 617.625.1212.
