Man Charged With Raping Woman Near Tufts

SOMERVILLE (WBZ) ― A Somerville man is under arrest and charged with sexually assaulting a woman near the Tufts University campus early Sunday morning.

Michael Mahoney was arrested Monday evening in Cambridge. According to police, the victim was walking near College Avenue and Dearborn Road in Somerville around 6 a.m. when Mahoney allegedly forced her to the back of a house where he raped her.

Police praised the victim for her ability to provide crucial information that led to Mahoney's arrest.

Mahoney will be arraigned in Somerville District Court on Tuesday. He is charged with rape and kidnapping.

Police tell WBZ's Jonathan Elias Mahoney is a person of interested in another rape that happened about a quarter-mile from where this attack took place. According to officials, there are similarities between these two cases.
