104 State Employees To Be Voluntarily Cut

WBZ's Guide To The Economy

BOSTON (WBZ) ― More than 100 state employees will soon be cut as park of Gov. Deval Patrick's attempt to close a $1.4 billion budget gap.

The cuts are part of voluntary layoffs, which Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Bob Keough said is hoped to reduce the number of involuntary layoffs in the future.

A total of 104 staff members at the Health and Human Services Department will be part of the first round of voluntary layoffs.

The Energy and Environmental Affairs Department is also expected to be affected and has about $2,500 employees eligible for voluntary layoffs.

More cuts are expected through the end of the year.
