Mass. State House Partially Evacuated

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The State House was partially evacuated Friday morning because of a fire alarm that turned out to be a false alarm.

A light bulb burst at the desk of a state house employee in Room 272 on the second floor just before 11 a.m.

The unidentified employee pulled the fire alarm, which led to the evacuation.

A Wellesley school orchestra that had been playing on the grand staircase was among those escorted out along with workers and other visitors.

There was never any fire or smoke, but there were reports of a strange odor.

The building was quickly reopened after fire officials determined it was a false alarm.
