Police Recover Antiques Stolen From Hospital
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
An antique picture and a majestic grandfather clock that vanished from Beverly Hospital years ago have turned up in a surprising place.
Police say they have recovered the gorgeous antiques worth hundreds of thousands of dollars after they were stolen from Beverly Hospital.
"It's very unusual," said Goveland police Chief Robert Kirmelewicz. "One painting is worth 200 grand (and) the grandfather clock is worth 10 grand."
On Tuesday, police arrested Paul Galzerano of Groveland. On Wednesday in court, the 56-year-old hid behind his lawyer as he was charged with seven counts of stolen property and stashing it in his home.
"My officers went to the house on a search warrant for a fire arms search," Kirmelewicz said. "When they went inside they noticed a lot of antique furniture inside the residence."
The stolen antiques belong to Beverly Hospital where Galzerano was an employee overseeing a renovation project.
The hospital launched its own investigation when they noticed several items gone and not located until now.
On Wednesday, a judge ordered Galzerano not to remove any furniture while the case is under investigation.
"All the furniture will remain in house and all of it's his," said Galzerano's attorney, Scott Gleason.
There are 28 paintings still missing from Beverly Hospital. Police are investigating to see if Glazerano has anything to do with that. He was released on $1,000 cash bail and has another court date set for Nov. 4.
