More Vaccine, Shorter Lines At Some H1N1 Clinics

FAQs: H1N1 Questions Answered

DORCHESTER (WBZ) ― After a slowdown in production, more H1N1 vaccine has come into the community.

A number of clinics were held in Boston Saturday, but turnout varied from location to location.

Michelle Christian brought her 7-year-old daughter Allyson to the H1N1 clinic at the Codman Square Health Center.

She was given a dose of the mist form of the vaccine.

"I've been listening to the news reports and what have you and even though they say they think it's reached its peak, I'd rather be safe than sorry," said Michelle.

Kriste O'Brien brought her three children.

"I usually don't do the flu shot at all," she said, "but I'm nervous with H1N1 and my pediatrician in West Roxbury doesn't know when she's going to get the vaccine in."

"We just got to keep going. As much as we get vaccine we've got to get it in our community because it is out there," said Mary Taylor, a nurse at the center.

One surprising thing about the clinic is what it lacked.

Crazy long lines.

At times there was no line at all.

"There were short lines. There was no wait. It was excellent. Because the other clinic we tried to go to ran out. They didn't have any more," said Michelle Christian.

That would be less than two miles away - at the Dorchester House.

1,100 people got the vaccine at the site's third H1N1 clinic.

"With the children this time, a lot of parents were here with their children, and people get concerned especially when they hear a story on the news that somebody died, that tends to bring the level up for the anxiety," said Victoria Medeiros of the Dorchester House.

More clinics are expected in the coming weeks.
