Man Hit By Lightning At Tanglewood
HOLYOKE (AP) ―
Crews are cleaning up in several western Massachusetts communities after the latest violent storm to hit the region.
A man was struck by lightning prior to a Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood on Sunday. BSO spokeswoman Bernadette Horgan said the man was taken to Berkshire Medical Center but there was no word on his condition.
Horgan told the Berkshire Eagle that concert patrons were urged to take shelter as the storm approached.
The severe thunderstorm also downed several utility poles on Reservoir Road and Route 5 in Holyoke. Officials said lightning struck a tree and caused a "domino effect."
Downed trees or power lines also forced a temporary shutdown of Interstate 91 southbound in Northampton and of at least 18 streets in Southampton.
