Tanker Crash, Spill Cleaned Up On Cape

HARWICH (WBZ) ― Crews worked through the night on Cape Cod to contain a fuel oil spill after a tanker overturned in Harwich.

The tanker collided with a pickup truck at about 3 p.m. Wednesday at Great Western Road and Lothrop Street. The driver of the pickup was trapped for 20 minutes. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Neither driver was seriously hurt.

Half of the tanker's 4,000 gallons of home heating oil spilled after the accident and crews worked to prevent any environmental damage.

About 1,000 homes had their power shut off temporarily as a precaution.

Great Western Road was re-opened several hours later.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
