Tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown were convicted Thursday on all counts of plotting to kill federal agents during a nine-month standoff at their fortified home in rural Plainfield, N.H.

One charge carries a mandatory minimum 30 years in prison. The Browns are in their 60s.

The Browns holed up in their hilltop home in early 2007 to avoid arrest after being convicted of tax evasion. They amassed an arsenal of high-powered weapons and explosives, including booby-traps in woods surrounding the home.

Ed Brown testified the weapons were for self-defense, saying he believed the government planned to kill the couple.

The Browns' arrests ended a standoff that lasted from January to October 2007, when Ed Brown, 65, a retired exterminator, and Elaine Brown, 67, walked out of their federal trial in Concord.

Sentenced to 63 months in prison, they refused to leave their Plainfied home, sustained by stores of food, supplies from supporters and a fan base stoked by constant postings and broadcasts on the Internet.

The verdict came after seven hours of deliberation over two days.
