Missing Plainville Teen Found Dead

NORFOLK (WBZ) ― There was a tragic end Monday to the search for a Plainville teenager missing since Friday night.

Taylor Meyer, 17, was found dead in a wooded, swampy area near the grounds of the former Norfolk Airport around 10 a.m.

Norfolk County District Attorney William Keating said it was a short walking distance from where she was last seen at an outdoor drinking party around 11 p.m. Friday. "The area's quite congested with woods," said Keating. "It's dark and it's very swampy. If any of you are aware in your own experience, it wouldn't take much to get disoriented."

A group of teenagers had come there following the homecoming football game at King Phillip Regional High School, where Meyer was a senior.

She was not reported missing until Saturday afternoon because of confusion between family and friends over her whereabouts.

"She started walking on her own," said Norfolk Police Chief Charles Stone. "(She) had made arrangements for a ride. She was in the process of that – calling for a ride. And everybody just assumed she went with someone else, and that's why there was some delay."

Friends told police they received a cell phone call from Meyer, in which she kept saying the word "plane." That call came at 10:57 p.m. and she was never heard from again.

A search began Saturday night and resumed Monday morning.

Authorities used boats, dogs and a State Police helicopter.

"There was no obvious sign of trauma," said Keating.

"That doesn't mean that we know what the cause of death was," he added. "The next step is for the medical examiners to make their determination."

The school is offering counseling Monday afternoon and evening for students.
