Gloucester Officials To Discuss Teen Pregnancy
GLOUCESTER (AP) ―
The mayor of Gloucester is to discuss teen pregnancy with school and public health officials after the high school principal said in a published report that some girls made pacts to have babies.
The Monday meeting comes after an alarming 17 girls -- four times the usual number -- became pregnant this year.
Mayor Carolyn Kirk says school counselors, teachers and families have not come up with information to back comments made by Gloucester High School Principal Joseph Sullivan to Time magazine that the students planned to get pregnant together.
Kirk says Sullivan has told city officials that he can't remember his source of information.
Kirk says that some girls may have been pregnant at the same time and decided to get through it together.
