Finneran Loses Bid For Bush Pardon

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Former Massachusetts House Speaker Thomas Finneran's request for a pardon from President Bush has failed.

Now he wants his law license back.

But some people don't think he should get it.

He gets to make his case Tuesday before the Board of Bar Overseers.

Finneran's license to practice law was temporarily suspended in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to a federal obstruction of justice charge. He argues that the shame, embarrassment and the loss of various rights -- such as his right to vote -- make a one-year suspension severe enough.

But the Office of the Bar Counsel wants Finneran disbarred entirely.

The office says Finneran violated a lawyer's central obligation to protect the integrity of the court.
