Small Tornado Hits Western Mass.

SUNDERLAND (WBZ) ― The National Weather Service says all indications point to a rare tornado in Massachusetts on Saturday.

It happened in Sunderland in Franklin County in the western part of the state.

Investigators say winds were clocked at 60-to-70 miles an hour.

It blew a tobacco barn off of its foundation and dropped it near Route 47.

Two silos were also knocked down and electrcity was cut off.

The National Weather Service believes it was a weak and short-lived tornado – also known as a gustnado.
 
NWS investigators will be back in the area Monday looking for more evidence from the system.
