A funnel cloud was spotted in Franklin County Thursday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to briefly issue a tornado warning.
Trained weather spotters reported a funnel cloud shortly after 2:30 p.m. near the town of New Salem, about 11 miles northeast of Amherst
Two intense, severe thunderstorms also moved across the state, WBZ's Ken Barlow said. One went east through the southern portion of Massachusetts while the other was to the north in Fitchburg.
It's unknown if the funnel cloud touched ground. The National Weather Service dispatched a SKYWARN weather observer to the Petersham area Friday to investigate.
