Toys For Tots Donations Drop This Year
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Toys For Tots is experiencing a shortage in toy donations this year, possibly another side effect of the current hard economic times.
Officials say 50 percent less toys have been being brought in so far than in past years, including last year, which also fell short of its donation goals during a healthy economy.
Officials estimate they are short by 300,000 toys.
The Toys for Tots program collects toys each year during the months of October, November and December and gives them as Christmas gifts to underprivileged children in the community.
This year there is a specific need for toys designed for children under 2 years old and for non-violent toys for kids ages 9-12.
In order for kids to receive the toys by Christmas Day, donations must be dropped off by Dec. 19.
To help out, you can drop off toys at a
donation location near you, or you can
donate online.
