Commuter Train Slams Into Car In Abington
ABINGTON (WBZ) ―
An MBTA commuter train slammed into a car on the tracks in Abington Friday afternoon.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo told WBZ it started when a driver tried to move his car around the crossing gate, which was down as the train approached.
The driver, 30-year-old Kevin Rutledge, of Kingston, was still in the car when it was hit by the train. However, he did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
Rutledge was taken to South Shore Hospital as a precaution. He will be cited for driving around the gate.
There were 30 passengers with the crew on the Kingston-Plymouth inbound train. No one was hurt.
Passengers were bused from South Weymouth to Braintree while the accident scene was cleared.
