Elderly Driver Loses Car Stuffed With Garbage
YARMOUTH (WBZ) ―
An elderly man shocked police on the Cape when he drove by them in a car so full of trash they couldn't believe he was able to operate it.
Two Yarmouth officers pulled the unidentified 72-year-old man over on Great Western Road Monday morning.
The car was stuffed to the windows with items such as a grill, a bike helmet, a hockey helmet, boxes of food and assorted garbage.
The man told officers he goes to counseling for hoarding.
Police issued him citations for driving without insurance, having an expired registration and inspection sticker and impeded operation.
Officers impounded the car and gave the man a ride home to an elderly housing complex in Sandwich, where his home is said to look much like his car.
The incident is similar to one in
Yarmouth in February 2007. Ann Biglan, 53, had so much trash in her car, coffee cups jammed under the accelerator and launched her car across three lanes of traffic on Route 28. It crashed into a pole and a car. Biglan's home was also overflowing with trash.
Hoarding could be a sign of a serious medical condition. For more information, click on the following links:
