Nomar, New Kids On Unclaimed Property List

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Nomar Garciaparra, chef Todd English and the New Kids On The Block are among 40,000 new names on theĀ Massachusetts Abandoned Property list. There is more than $17 million waiting to be claimed by local residents and companies.

The list provided by the Treasurer's office is updated twice each year, and represents forgotten bank accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, dividends and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. Such property is generally considered abandoned after three years of no activity.

State Treasurer Tim Cahill is urging everybody to check the list and see if they have money coming their way. "Our goal is to get the people of Massachusetts the money that is owed to them," Cahill said.

The new Abandoned Property list includes:

  • 6 accounts over $100,000
  • 10 accounts between $50,000 and $100,000
  • 439 accounts over $5,000
  • 411 safe deposit boxes
  • 779 mutual fund owners
  • 11,990 stock owners

The Massachusetts Abandoned Property Division has returned nearly $250 million to its rightful owners in recent years. Find out if you have missing money by searching the Abandoned Property Division web site.
