Cases Of Illegally Bought Booze Destroyed

LAKEVILLE (WBZ) ― "Sure...I know people who can get me beer," said one Boston-area college student.

And many underage drinkers start texting each other come the weekend, about where to get booze. "Yea, we do it all the time," said one Boston College co-ed. "We find out what store isn't checking IDs."

But this is the busy time of year for agents from the Alcohol Beverages Control Commission. "Yea, it's the holiday season coming up", said Christine Wisichoski of the ABCC. "And the heaviest drinking day for young people is the day before Thanksgiving, so we'll have all our agents out."

Officials say that 15 percent of all liquor sales in the state are attributed to minors, but the ABCC has only a handful of agents that can try to stop sales of booze to minors.

On Monday, at a recycling plant in Lakeville, WBZ cameras recorded hundreds of cases of beer and booze being destroyed -- booze that was illegally purchased by minors, and kept as evidence.

But now, the ABCC evidence room is so full of beer and liquor, they had to get rid of some of it.
