Police Nab Minors In Underage Drinking Sting

FOXBORO (WBZ) ― They are scouring woods, motels, and liquor stores looking for kids drinking alcohol. Armed with a $5,000 grant from the state, Foxboro police are focused on a battle against underage drinking.

"Every weekend there are kids either getting alcohol from establishments, from family members, or from their own house," said Sgt. Richard Noonan.

When WBZ tagged along with their patrol for a few hours, they found a group of teenagers with a stash of dozens of beers in a local motel room.

"You're going to have six, seven, eight kids sometimes in one room and underage, unsupervised, drinking, partying," said patrolman David Foscaldo. Police arrested two 20-year-olds and two 18-year-olds.

The issue made headlines recently when a 17-year-old from nearby Plainville died after wandering off from a drinking party. Taylor Meyer drowned in some wetlands behind the Norfolk Airport.

Even though the incident has forced parents and teenagers to focus on the dangers of underage drinking, police say it's still happening all too often.

"It's happening on a weekly basis," said Sgt. Noonan.

The grant allows police to dedicate several officers to the problem specifically until the end of May.
