Unemployment - A Look At The Numbers

Find: A Virtually Recession Proof Career

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The nation's unemployment rate hit a 14-year high Friday.

Boston-based Fidelity and the Boston Globe announced layoffs this week.

More companies are expected to follow with job cuts of their own.

So how bad is it in Massachusetts?

Unemployment numbers for October won't be out for two more weeks, but last month's figures were below the national average.

The unemployment rate in Massachusetts was 5.3 percent in September, below the national average of 6.1 for the month.

On Friday, that national average jumped to 6.5 percent for October.
