When John McCain's newly named running mate proudly declared, "I'm just a regular hockey mom," those words resonated at rinks across the country.
At the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, mothers were sounding off about Sarah Palin.
"She's obviously put her heart into her children, because that's what you do when you play hockey. You travel, spend many hours, and have to be a dedicated mom," said Rae Etting as she watched her son score.
She was a Hillary Clinton supporter, who is now thinking about voting Republican.
"She's really a regular person, you know, just like most of us. She feels the same way that we feel," Etting said.
Palin has five children.
"I'm a mother of four. I can kind of relate to what her day is like and she definitely is very talented to do what she does," said Jane Tierney from Reading.
She's also impressed with Palin's ability to care for her youngest child, a baby with Downs Syndrome.
"I think nothing stops her. She's just going to learn a lot from this child, be much stronger, and probably have another cause to champion," Tierney said.
As for Palin's favorite food, moose burgers or moose stew. None of the local hockey moms could relate to that.
"I wouldn't base my vote on that though. I just wouldn't want to have dinner with her," said coach's wife Kelly DiNorcia.
