1 Dead, 1 Critically Hurt In Lift Collapse

WALTHAM (WBZ) ― One worker was killed and another was critically hurt in a construction accident in Waltham Friday morning.

A hydraulic lift collapsed and fell to the ground outside the AstraZeneca Research Center on Gatehouse Drive around 11 a.m.

Waltham police say the lift was not set up properly.  The workers fell 25 feet to the ground.

They were doing work on an expansion of the research center.

Police said a 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other worker was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for treatment.

Their names have not been released.

State, local and federal officials are investigating the accident.
