Payne Remembered As A Great Man And Firefighter
DORCHESTER (AP) ―
For the second time in as many days, mourners filled a Boston church to remember a fallen firefighter.
Warren Payne and Paul Cahill died battling a restaurant blaze in the city's West Roxbury neighborhood. Payne's funeral was held at the United House of Prayer for All People in Dorchester.
A black fire helmet, with Payne's number 25 on it, sat on top of the silver casket in the center of the church. A large portrait of the smiling firefighter stood on an easel nearby.
Boston Fire Chief Kevin MacCurtain called Payne a "great man and a great firefighter," saying the 53-year-old father of two was loved and will be missed.
MacCurtain thanked Boston residents for the outpouring of support for the fire department since the August 29 blaze.
Cahill's funeral was held Thursday at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury.
