6 Boston Restaurants Dump Bottled Water For Tap
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
6 Boston restaurants have decided to stop selling bottled water, the latest move in a growing trend in the area.
"We are working to urge restaurants, as well as city officials, to offer tap water over bottled water," Annie Sander of Corporate Accountability, Inc. said Thursday.
"Bottled water is bad for taxpayers, it's bad for the environment and it's bad for our public water system," she said.
There was mixed reaction from diners who spoke to WBZ.
"I think in some areas of the city, or in other cities, the tap water doesn't taste so good, sometimes there's a metallic taste to it, so it seems to me the customer should decide," said Henry Patterson.
"I grew up drinking tap water," said diner Saoul Rahman. "I'm almost 60 years old and it didn't kill me."
For that reason cities like Cambridge and Somerville are cancelling their bottled water contracts for public employees.
The city of Boston is now auditing their bottled water use for city employees as well.
