National Grid says they will be seeking repayment of nearly $5 million from the Boston Sewer and Water Commission after a water main break in the city over the weekend flooded natural gas lines.
According to a National Grid official, the company will not pass the repair costs on to consumers because they believe the commission is liable.
The bulk of the cost is for overtime, work crews that were brought in from all over the region and for specialized pumping equipment used to pull water out of the natural gas lines.
A spokesman for the Boston Sewer and Water Commission tells the Boston Globe the cost of the water main break has not been resolved.
National Grid issued a service update on Thursday. Crews have restored gas service to more than 90 percent of the 410 commercial and residential customers affected by the outage.
According to National Grid, the presence of large amounts of water in the gas mains and water in customer service lines in the financial district is still an issue.
